My name is Marialyn Bazile and I am the founder and director of Mustard Seed. In 1979, when I made my first trip to Haiti, I had no idea of the way my life was about to change. Haiti is a country that captures the heart, and I fell victim the minute I stepped off the plane. Five years later, while living in Haiti, I married Eddy Bazile; a young (at that time) man from the remote town of Jeremie, Haiti.
Shortly after our marriage, we moved to the States and over the next two decades I was busy building a home and raising a family; but Haiti was never far from my thoughts. In 2002, while on a family trip to Haiti, I was struck by the desperate need for programs and assistance for children living in the Jeremie area. After returning home, I began contacting friends and Mustard Seed was born.
Those who have had the privilege of visiting Haiti know that despite the many hardships facing them daily, Haitians are resilient and joyful. It is a blessing to be involved in their lives and I invite you to join with us in serving them.
I would love to hear your story or answer your questions. Please contact me at marialyn@mustardseed-haiti.org.
