Tent School: Mustard Seed helps support a tent school that has been struggling to exist since the earthquake. The students are not charged tuition and the teachers often have to donate their time as funds are not available to pay them regularly.
Educational Grants: Mustard Seed believes that education is key to unlocking the future for Haiti's children and is proud to have matched dozens of school children with sponsors. Many of these children have already graduated and found employment; like Damony, an orphan who was sponsored through high school and is now working for the United Nations in his hometown of Jeremie.
Micro-loan Program: Haitians are hard-working people with limited opportunities. Mustard Seed strives to help families become independent by setting them up with a small business, and teaching them how to successfully manage and run it. Although fairly new, this program has been very successful. Over the last four years we have issued 23 micro-loans with only one ending in default. These new businesses are currently providing regular income for their owners.
Orphans and the Elderly: Mustard Seed is involved in providing aid to the residents of a local orphanage and a home for the elderly. We provide meals, clothing, and hygiene products as funds allow.
